This was as much as I could get done before losing the light of day.

Cafe Sketches #3

A whole whack of sketches from various coffee shop visits. It's taken me over a month to update, what with moving and starting work again at the same time, then my computer being on the fritz. But now everything's working and I have a little time off again, so hopefully more will follow.

Cafe Sketches #2

Compilation of sketches from the second coffee shop excursion. Some of them I actually did later, but same week, so I threw them in.

Pencil Pixies Blog Update

The girls and I have finished the latest topic for the pencil pixies blog. The topic was mer-people based off of real fish. Mine was not so much a fish, but the Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake. Check out the blog, for more awesome mer-people art.

New Things...

A PAINTING AND SKETCHES

The painting is a little watercolour practice I did on cardboard. I've been thinking about embellishing it in Photo Shop, but we will see. Right now, as is. It seems pretty boring. That seems to be what I do. Ether I draw really boring stuff, or really weird things. Like the man, with feet for hands, and hands for feet.

INK PRACTICE

I got a new sketchbook. It's smaller and more portable than my big one, so I've using it to practice some ink work. I really like working in black and white. I think I'll work some more with it. :)

LITTLE GIRLS AND DRAG QUEENS

I think they go together pretty well eh?

I'll be posting these and maybe some other stuff up on deviant as well.

I Can Never Seem to Have Too Many Books...

Went to a book sale at Algonquin College and picked up these three books. The Art of Open Season and HeroBear were books I'd flipped through at a friends place and instantly loved what I saw. Perhaps it has to do with my love of bears. Ha Ha. Who knows.

Some peeks inside:
The Art of Open Season: 1 , 2
HeroBear: 1 , 2
Peches Mignons: 1 , 2

Sketch Time

Me and a couple of friends went to the Art Museum here in ole' Ottawa the other day, which was followed by a bunch of sketching.

Project # 2 In Progress - Purple Dress

I started this dress back in Vancouver. But then I moved across the country and it got put in a drawer. One year later, I'm trying to finish it. It's not anything terribly exciting, but I'm working from a very confusing pattern for this one and when it gets done I'll be so personally satisfied.
Right now, I'd say it's at the half way mark. The camera doesn't pick up the colour too well so the purple dot is to show the colour a little more accurately. Once it's done I will post more pretty pictures. :D

Peace,
Sarah

Project #1 - Blamo!

Well, during this time of unemployment I have been working on all my unfinished projects, one of which is painting.

I haven't painted in years, so I'm pretty rusty as you can see. I don't really like this painting, but I had to do something to warm up and get into the groove again.

If anyone has some ideas to make this painting better, I'd be glad to hear it. I'm always open to constructive criticism.

I still have three blank canvases the same size as this to play with so hopefully I'll get better with each one. Now I just need some ideas!

PS: anyone notice how hard it is to photograph paintings?

Toot and Puddle Animation Reel

Toot and Puddle Animation Reel from Sarah Baker on Vimeo.

I think I need to make this video about half the length. Kudos to you if you actually watched the whole 4 minutes. This is pretty much what I've been doing with my time in Ottawa. Animating two little piggies traveling around the world. Where they get the money to do this? Don't know. They're drug dealers is my guess.
